Necklace "Ash Pendant" in stainless steel with Freya and Brisingamen
Necklace "Ash Pendant" in stainless steel with Freya and Brisingamen
Necklace made entirely of stainless steel, replica of the Ash Pendant.
The ash pendant is a so-called back button clasp and depicts a pregnant female figure with her hands clasped under her belly.
The woman is believed to depict Freya with her famous necklace Brisingamen.
Brisingamen, "the flaming jewel", gets its name from "brisa" which means flame or glow and "men" which means necklace.
Freya was, in addition to being the goddess of love and war, the foremost of the Valkyries and was invoked during pregnancy and childbirth.
The ash pendant is a grave find from Aska in Hagebyhöga parish, Östergötland and is located at the Historical Museum in Stockholm.
