Necklace with hand-carved rune 'Völva' in genuine silver
Necklace with hand-carved rune 'Völva' in genuine silver
Necklace made of stone with hand-carved bind rune in silver. Loop and chain made of stainless steel.
The pendant consists of a stone found on one of Sweden's beautiful beaches. We have carved a bindrune that symbolizes the Völva and set it in genuine silver. The stone is varnished to protect the silver and bring out the stone's natural color and pattern.
The Völvan 'völr' means the staff bearer. She was a fortune teller and sajder who was highly respected during the Viking Age. She could wander freely without risk of getting into trouble and when she came to a farm, the high seat was given to her as only the king was above her in rank.
The Völvan's staff was considered to have magical properties and she was the Vikings' most important link to the gods and the spirit world. She could see the future and the past, cure diseases, influence the weather and bring good luck. Therefore, she was treated as a queen by them.
